April Woodard immerses herself in a diverse range of stories, and her unique talents continually play a key role in scoring some of Inside Edition's top interviews. Woodard's trademark is gripping reports on a variety of topics ranging from children battling disfiguring diseases to red carpet interviews with such stars as Alicia Keys, Nelly and Eva Longoria.

A senior correspondent based in New York, Woodard went undercover to investigate what it's like to live on the streets of Manhattan and experience life as a homeless woman. Surrendering her cell phone, wedding ring and wallet, Woodard spent two straight days on the streets where she slept on park benches and panhandled money for food.

Woodard has also reported several stories on hemangioma, a rare affliction affecting infants who develop irregularities on their noses, faces and bodies shortly after birth. In a particularly touching report, Woodard followed a child's progress from diagnosis through corrective surgery.

Reporting for Inside Edition, Woodard is a staple at the MTV Video Music Awards, Tony Awards and Country Music Association Awards, as well as the annual Upfronts, in which the broadcast networks present their future programming to advertisers. She has also been a guest anchor on the "BET Nightly News" broadcast, as well as an expert on "BET Tonight with Ed Gordon." She has issued a number of special live reports for national broadcast outlets, including CNN, CBS's "Up to the Minute" and NBC's "Today." In 2000, she produced a segment on United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, which aired internationally. Additionally, Woodard was a recipient of The Network Journal-Black Professionals and Small Business Magazine's 10th Annual 40 Under Forty Achievement Awards.

Beyond television, Woodard has written a series of children's books with her childhood friend. She also has written magazine articles for Essence.com, Health Quest and Today's Child. She was a contributor to the book, "Bill Clinton and Black America," by Dewayne Wickham and served as a judge for the Miss Virginia Scholarship Pageant. In addition, she has hosted "Reaching for the Stars," a program sponsored by NASA to encourage minorities to seek careers in math and science.

Woodard is also a regular on "The Wendy Williams Experience," a syndicated radio show, where she discusses the latest events, fashion and celebrity news.

In 1989, Woodard won the Miss National Black USA title and went on to win many other local and state pageants, including second runner up in the Miss Virginia pageant.

Woodard's journey as a journalist began a decade ago when she won a full academic scholarship to the University of Virginia, majoring in rhetoric and communications. After graduating with honors, she went on to work as an associate producer, reporter and, eventually, fill-in anchor for WTKR-TV (CBS) in Norfolk, Va. She then moved to Seattle, Wash., where she worked as a reporter/fill-in anchor for KING-TV (NBC).
