Police also suspect the young teen injured the victim's little brother.

An Oklahoma boy has been shot dead with a crossbow after cops say his 13-year-old playmate pulled the trigger.

Ten-year-old Austin Almanza died over the weekend after police believe the arrow exited his body and lodged itself in the shoulder of his 8-year-old brother, Ayden.

Authorities say the tragedy unfolded Saturday near a tree house in the town of Chandler.

Lincoln County Sheriff Charlie Dougherty said Austin's death was no accident.

"He’s dead because of an action that took place, so until something steers us in another direction we’re going to work it as a homicide," Dougherty told reporters.

A witness said the teen had gotten the crossbow just the day before.

The 13-year-old, who has not been identified, was being held at a juvenile detention facility. He reportedly told adults at the scene it was an accident.

The sheriff completed his investigation on Monday. The district attorney will decide if charges will be filed against the boy.

Meanwhile, the boys' family is working on funeral arrangements and a YouCaring fundraiser has been created to help offset funeral costs.

"Austin[,] a beautiful, smart, caring 10 year old boy was killed in a tragic accident  Oct 21st 2017.
