Video from the summer of 1977 has just been unearthed and featured David Letterman was one of the sketch comedy players on a short-lived CBS variety show starring The Starland Vocal Band.

Their hit "Afternoon Delight" got them a seven-week series and Letterman played a letter carrier. Get it? Letterman played a mailman. He read letters to the band.
It was one of his first jobs in Hollywood after spending four years on the air in Indianapolis as a weather man.

His style then was described as quirky and irreverent. Maybe not the best thing for a weatherman but perfect for a future late night host.
