It was Ellen DeGeneres's first show on American Idol, and the reviews are in.
The New York Daily News says "the wit replaced the twit," referring to her replacing the loopy Paula Abdul.
And the Los Angeles Times says Ellen "hit the right notes."
Ellen didn't always playing nice.
"You frighten me. You are stalking us like a leopard behind a cage. Sexy and scary, it's a fine line," said DeGeneres to one contestant.
To another contestant, Ellen said, "I'm tired as it is and that almost put me right out."
Simon Cowell is gone next year, and Ellen apparently is concerned about reports that one replacement under consideration is shock jock Howard Stern.
The blog site deadline.com/hollywood reporting that "Ellen is not in favor" of Stern joining the show.
And over on NBC it was Jay Leno's final show in the 10 p.m. time slot before his Tonight Show gig starts March 1st.
Donald Trump was a special guest. Trump said to Leno, "I just wanted to tell you that your bosses at NBC have asked me to pass along a special message to you Jay. You know why? Because they don't have the guts to do it themselves. You're fired!"
