His name is Uggie and he's become the most famous dog of the year for his appearance in The Artist. INSIDE EDITION caught up with the famous pup and his owner.
He's the breakout star of The Artist. We're talking about Uggie the dog!
Hollywood's new four-legged sensation is ten-years-old and was born in Florida.
Uggie lives in a modest house in a Los Angeles suburb with a look-alike Jack Russell Terrier, who was actually his stand-in for The Artist. His trainer, Omar von Muller, rescued Uggie just before he was sent off to a shelter by his original owners because he was too energetic.
"I fell in love with him and the rest is history," said von Muller.
Uggie can do tricks like walking on his hind legs, and can even skateboard. And here's something else you may not know—he's a show biz veteran. You've seen him before in films including Mr. Fix It and Water for Elephants with Reese Witherspoon. He also does commercials for American Greetings.
Uggie is finding his biggest success at the "tail" end of his career. But unfortunately, The Artist may be his last film. He suffers from a rare neurological condition that causes his paws to shake uncontrollably—a sort of doggie Parkinson's disease.
But that doesn't slow Uggie down. He's actually still waiting to get an invite to Sunday's Oscars®. So just in case, we joined him on a shopping trip to the Beverly Hills Mutt Club, the premier store for doggie clothing. There, Uggie picked out an elegant tux—perfect for Oscar® night.
