Blood and pain etched the face of acclaimed actor Michael McKean after he was struck down by a car in New York City.
It happened at a busy intersection on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. McKean was standing on the sidewalk when an out-of-control car slammed into the actor and sent him flying.
The star is best known for playing Lenny on the classic 70's sit-com Laverne & Shirley. He also starred in the movie This Is Spinal Tap.
McKean is in New York appearing in the play The Best Man with Angela Lansbury. His spokesperson said last night was the first time in 40 years that McKean had missed a performance. His co-stars, James Earl Jones, Candice Bergen, and John Larroquette looked concerned while arriving at the today's matinee performance.
McKean was treated at the scene. Paramedics applied a neck brace as he lay on an immobilization board. He was hospitalized with multiple injuries including a broken leg. His publicist called the accident "devastating."
McKean's wife, the actress Annette O'Toole rushed to his side from Los Angeles.
