Ashton Kutcher is the latest celebrity to become a victim to the prank known as "swatting," when a phony 911 call sent emergency response teams to his home thinking the worst. INSIDE EDITION has the scoop.
It was guns drawn as a SWAT team moved in on the home of Ashton Kutcher. A video exclusively obtained by INSIDE EDITION showed the terrifying scene as cops responded to a call of shots fired inside the home. Police arrived fully expecting a life and death situation.
One cop said, "It's a major response. We're thinking there's a hostage. It could be anything, we take it very seriously."
Workers from Kutcher's home in the Hollywood Hills were handcuffed and being questioned. It was a tense and potentially volitale situation.
"The officers that get here to the scene, with their hair on their necks standing up, [are] thinking that, 'This is it. This is another situation where I could lose my life,'" said an officer.
But then, it was revealed to be a dangerous hoax called "swatting," when someone makes an emergency call that draws the full force of the law.
Kutcher's beautiful home was featured on a local Los Angeles real estate show. It is the house he moved into after his split from Demi Moore.
Kutcher was not at home. He tweeted this from the studio set Wednesday: "Safe and sound at Two-and-a-Half Men."
Unfortunately, Kutcher is not the first star to be targeted. In August, Miley Cyrus was targeted by a similar hoax after a phony 911 call described a home invasion in progress. Coincidentally, Miley is about to appear as a guest on Two-and-a-Half Men in October.
Curiously, back in 2004, Kutcher pulled a similar stunt on his pal, actor Chris Klein, on MTV's Punk'd. A fake SWAT team surrounded Klein's house, and he didn't realize he was being pranked until Kutcher showed up.
Of course, yesterday's swatting was no joke.
