Reese Witherspoon landed herself in hot water when cops say she became confrontational with a police officer during a DUI arrest involving her husband. INSIDE EDITION has more on what the Hollywood star said that got her arrested.
It’s America’s sweetheart like you've never seen her before. In a police mug shot.
Reese Witherspoon was hauled off to jail in Atlanta for disorderly conduct and her Hollywood agent husband, Jim Toth, was charged with driving drunk.
Toth was behind the wheel and allegedly weaving between lanes when a Georgia state trooper pulled him over. As he was being given a field sobriety test, Witherspoon allegedly got out of the car twice.
The cop ordered her back in, telling her to, “Sit her butt down."
Witherspoon allegedly lost it and shouted out that she was, "An American citizen" and allowed to "Stand on American ground".
According to the police report, when 37-year-old Witherspoon was charged with disorderly conduct, she showed a lot of attitude, telling the trooper, "Do you know my name? You are going to be on national news."
The trooper's report stated, "I advised Mrs. Witherspoon that was fine."
Witherspoon was taken into custody. Her mug shot shows her looking contrite and forlorn.
She's dyed her hair brunette for a new movie, which she's shooting in Georgia.
After being released, Witherspoon flew to New York for the premiere Sunday night of her new movie MUD. She posed with her co stars, including Mathew Mcconauhgey
In a statement, Witherspoon admits, "Clearly I had one drink too many. I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. I have nothing but respect for the police and I’m very sorry for my behavior".
Joan Rivers made a wise crack about Witherspoon's arrest at the Matrix awards in New York saying, "She's no longer the girl next door. Now she wants to be the drunk soccer mom."
