He then went on to tweet:

The U.S. will invite El Chapo, the Mexican drug lord who just escaped prison, to become a U.S. citizen because our "leaders" can't say no!

The drug lord is actually firing back while still on the run on a Twitter account apparently controlled by his son. He wrote in a foul-mouthed tweet aimed at Trump.

The tycoon has contacted the FBI over El Chapo's threat.

"I’m fighting for much more than myself,” Trump said in a statement. "I'm fighting for the future of our country which is being overrun by criminals. You can't be intimidated."

And new photos of El Chapo are circulating online today, purportedly taken after his escape. One shows him in the passenger seat of a private plane.

In another shows him chilling out and enjoying a beer and has a full head of hair.

But speculation is rising that the photos are old. Mexican officials say El Chapo would have his hair in a buzz cut.

The billionaire drug lord is now likely on his way to a reunion with his much younger, beauty queen wife.

Another tweet on his son's account taunted his one-time captors: "There is no cage that can hold El Chapo."
