Oscar Pistorius has been released from prison and must meet with the parents of Reeva Steenkamp, the girlfriend he shot to death, as a condition of his prison release, a South African official said.

He must continue psychotherapy and is banned from possessing a firearm.
Correctional Services Minster Michael Masutha said Monday that Pistorius has been ordered to sit down with the Steenkamp family members “if and when they agree to meet him,” the eNCA news agency reported.
“It is especially the person who is the source of your pain, who making peace with, is likely to bring the greatest healing,” Masutha said.
The family said it would consider such a meeting only if it were private and came “at the right time,” the agency reported.

The “Blade Runner,” who competed with two artificial feet, was convicted last year.
Steenkamp was shot to death through the locked bathroom door of Pistorius’ home on Valentine’s Day in 2013. He was convicted of culpable homicide - or manslaughter - in 2014.
