The tennis icon recounted the story to her fans on Facebook and said she turned into a super hero to get her phone back.
She said she was with a friend sitting in a four-person booth with her phone next to her when a friendly stranger came up to them on Tuesday and began to chat. Williams said she had an “eerie feeling.”
“I kept watching him from the corner of my eye. Than when least expected low and behold this common petty thief grabbed my phone and swiftly left,” she wrote. “I looked at the chair, then shouted ‘Omg that dude took my phone!!’”
She says she transformed into a super hero and ran after the man. He ran, she caught up to him.
“In the most menacing yet calm no nonsense voice I could muster I kindly asked him if he "accidentally" took the wrong phone,” she wrote. “He stumbled on his words probably not expecting this to happen. While he was thinking of the right thing to say and eventually he said "Gosh you know what I did! It was so confusing in there. I must have grabbed the wrong phone.’”
