The ad, which was released this week as part of the company's "All Together Now" holiday campaign, shows a family preparing for Christmas dinner and features two men embracing and giving a toast.

“The best part of the holidays? Being together with family and friends, of course!” Kohl's wrote alongside the video" target="_blank"> on YouTube.
The video is entitled "Celebrate Togetherness."
The commercial comes shortly after Mattel bucked stereotypes by using a boy in a Barbie commercial for the first time. And in October, Campbell's released a commercial showing two gay dads feeding their son a bowl of Star Wars-inspired soup. Both tell him: "I am your father."

After the release of the Kohl's video, the company received both support and criticism on social media.

But on Facebook, one shopper commented: "I have shopped at your stores for about 10 years and I have enjoyed it. The inclusion of a same-sex couple in your ad suggests to me that you are for that lifestyle. I am not. I have never been a supporter of the gay lifestyle and will never be. I'm disappointed in your decision."
