Martin Pick, 38, and his son, Declan, who was just 17 at the time, were captured by surveillance cameras as they targeted the British store in March 2015.

Declan dressed as an elderly man and pushed his father - dressed as an elderly woman - in a wheelchair as they entered the Boston Spa Post.

The elder Pick pulled out a shotgun from a blanket over his knee, sprung from the wheelchair, jumped the counter and demanded money, according to the West Yorkshire Police. His son apparently had a handgun and also demanded money.

Police say Martin hit an employee over the head with a crowbar and was later disarmed by someone in the store.

According to police, employee Tony Williams said: “They didn’t just rob the post office, it felt like they robbed my soul. I am still receiving counselling and finding it hard to [go] back to being the happy-go-lucky person that I was before.”

When the father and son fled, Martin’s brother, Mark, 42, was awaiting in a getaway car, police said. The car was allegedly stolen a month prior.

Following an investigation, the trio was arrested.

Martin Pick, who was charged with robbery and possession of a firearm, admitted the crimes when he appeared in court, police said. Mark and Declan Pick were also found guilty after a trial at Leeds Crown Court in November.

On Wednesday, a Leeds County Court sentenced the brothers.

Martin was sentenced to 18 years in prison with a five-year extended license for a total of 23 years.

Mark, was jailed for 16 years. Declan, now 18, is due to be sentenced at a later date.

The stolen money was returned to the store.

Detective Inspector Phil Jackson, of Leeds District CID, said: “Although the bizarre disguises these men used may make this incident seem like a comedy, for those involved it was deadly serious and was clearly a very frightening experience in what is normally a quiet village.”
