A New York dad took his daughters, ages 12 and 7, to see the Boss and kept them up past their bedtime.
A New York dad decided to be honest in the note he wrote to excuse his daughters' tardiness to school this week: they were up late at a concert.
Patrick Pipino of Saratoga Springs is himself a huge Bruce Springsteen fan. Ever since he learned his daughters love the Boss, too, he's been taking them to the beloved performer's concerts.
On Monday, Springsteen performed 40 minutes away in Albany. It was a school night, but Pipino figured it was a special occasion and wouldn't be a big deal if Isabelle, 12, and Sarah, 7, were up a little late.
That's exactly what happened. Then, on Tuesday, Pipino thought it'd be preferable for the girls to get a full night's sleep and be late rather than go to school tired.

And Pipino's note to Isabelle's school spelled it all out.
"Please excuse Isabelle's tardiness to school today.

"In the interest of honesty, I feel it my obligation to be straight with all of you as to the reason.
"Last night Isabelle was lucky enough to see Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in Albany, and darned if he didn’t play for three and half hours.
"This may not seem like a good excuse, but have you ever wondered how many kids would be late-or miss school outright -if God were to suddenly appear? It’s something like that."
Pipino told INSIDE EDITION he was just trying to be funny and thought honesty would be the best policy.
"I thought it would be funny just to tell the truth," he said. "So many people make excuses."
Pipino didn't stop there, though. He wanted everyone to see how honest he could be.
"I thought some of my friends would get a kick out of it on Facebook," he told IE.

After posting the note, his friends (and their friends and their friends and their friends) started to react.
"It's been crazy," said Pipino, who admitted the reactions have been both positive and negative.
"He doesn't care about education," was one critique while another was "how can he do that when his wife's a teacher?"
Pipino said the criticism is misplaced.
"It was a lighthearted, funny thing. That's all it was meant to be," he said. "My daughters are great students, they take school very seriously."
