The incident, which occurred last June at the U.S. Penitentiary Coleman II in Sumterville, Florida, landed Bulger in solitary confinement for 30 days, the paper said.
The infamous and feared mobster had violated a regulation forbidding sexual activity of any kind by inmates, officials said. But Bulger, now 86, claimed he was doing nothing of the kind.
Citing a prison disciplinary report, the paper reported Thursday that Bulger said he was putting powder on his genitals to combat a fungus brought on by hot temperatures.
"I've never had any charges like that in my whole life," said the man serving life in prison for participating in 11 murders. "My sex life is over," he told an officer, the paper reported.
He was convicted in 2013 of participating in the killings, and of running an enormous criminal synicated from the 1970s to the 1990s.
