A Phoenix cop came upon a pack of little stray dogs this week and nearly took one of the pups for a long, dangerous ride.
A stray dog in Arizona is either the smartest or dimmest pooch around.
When Lt. Tom Van Dorn of the Phoenix Police Department was on patrol when a pack of little dogs came running up the road, blocking traffic.
When he followed behind the dogs in his police SUV, they dispursed.

All but one of them, that is. One little gal decided the best place to hide would be right under the officer's nose.
"One unlucky pooch ran under the lieutenant's car," Phoenix PD wrote in a Facebook post.
For a while, the little white and tan mutt was merely under the Chevrolet Tahoe. The officer even tried to coax her out with a hot dog.
After even that didn't work, the situation worsened as the pooch managed to wedge herself into the undercarriage of the car itself.

The dog was in there, panting in the heat, for some twenty minutes. Finally, the officer was able to get her out with the help of Maricopa County Animal Care & Control.
In their own Facebook post, the Maricopa County Animal Care & Control revealed the pooch's fitting new name: Tahoe.
She is now being held at a county facility, where staff hopes news coverage of her sneaky attempt to evade detection will potentially lead her back to her owners.
"Our paws are crossed that Tahoe's family will see her and come came their beloved pooch," they wrote.
