Thankfully there were no injuries.
An American Airlines jet was forced to make an emergency landing after it was struck by lightning on Thursday.

“It was like we were hit by a missile,” said one passenger after the plane landed safely in New York.
“It was very scary,” another added.
Audio from the pilot to air traffic control reveals the pilot telling the controller: “Just got hit by lightning."
The air traffic controller responded: "Roger. Everything ok?"
"Yeah, don’t send us through there again. It's pretty bad. Let's go ahead and divert to JFK," the pilot said.

The plane was heading from North Carolina to New York's LaGuardia Airport but instead made an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport, which is 10 miles away.
There was damage to the wing of the plane and thankfully no injuries.
American Airlines says the plane was carrying 55 passengers and four crew members.
