Newborn Baby Boy Found Alive Under Two Feet of Garbage in a Dumpster

A Washington couple rescued a baby boy they heard crying in a dumpster under 20 bags of trash.

A baby is safe in a Washington State hospital this weekend after a couple found him abandoned in a dumpster.

Police say the newborn boy was discovered when the couple were walking near an apartment complex in the town of Everett after 8 p.m. on Friday.

Jeff Meyer told KING 5 that his girlfriend made the discovery while dropping off her garbage, but wasb't sure if it was a real baby or a discarded toy.

"Paula immediately jumped into action. She calls 911... and starts digging through the garbage," Meyer said. "And she's in a dress."

When police arrived, Meyer said officers believed it was a toy.

Unconvinced, Meyer's girlfriend jumped into the dumpster and removed "what must have been two feet of garbage."

There, under 20 bags of trash, was the baby.

The newborn was taken to a hospital for medical treatment. Community Information Officer Aaron Snell with the Everett Police told InsideEdition.com the baby did not suffer "any broken bones or anything like that."

The boy is expected to survive. After he's released from the hospital, the infant will likely be handed over to Child Protective Services unless family has been located by then.

There is no indication when or why the newborn was abandoned in the dumpster.

Detectives are canvassing the area and looking for possible leads.
