Governor Chris Christie said he believes Trump cleared up his controversial comments.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is coming to Donald Trump’s defense following the GOP frontrunner’s controversial remarks about abortion.

Speaking on a New Jersey radio program, “Ask the Governor,” Christie said Trump “misspoke” and believes “he cleared it up” when Trump rebuked his initial stance on abortion.
On Wednesday, the real estate tycoon told MSNBC’s Chris Matthews during a town hall “there has to be some form of punishment” when it came to abortions.
Matthews replied: “For the women?” To which Trump said “Yes.”
Trump later backtracked on his comments and clarified what he meant in a statement: “If Congress were to pass legislation making abortion illegal and the federal courts upheld this legislation, or any state were permitted to ban abortion under state and federal law, the doctor or any other person performing this illegal act upon a woman would be held legally responsible, not the woman. The woman is a victim in this case as is the life in her womb. My position has not changed -- like Ronald Reagan, I am pro-life with exceptions."

During the radio program, Christie also talked about his relationship with his former presidential rival, saying: “I have had my opportunities to call him and give him my opinion and views on either something he has said or get him ready for things he might be asked.”
In February, Christie endorsed Trump to become the Republican nominee for president.
