9-Foot Alligator Knocks On Woman's Door in The Middle of The Night

The 9-foot-long gator was missing part of its tail.

Turning up unannounced on someone’s doorstep at 11 p.m. on a Sunday is never very proper -- but this alligator didn't seem to care.

Shatrina Shy Greenwood was in her South Carolina home with friends when she heard a loud knock on the door and was stunned to find the large gator waiting on her front porch.

She told IE.com that she initially thought it was her dog banging on her wall to get her attention, but when she saw the beast, she started screaming.

She and her guests called 911 and she was given the number of “The Snake Chaser,” Russell Cavender, a local expert in wildlife removal.

“She had quite the beast," he told IE.com. "It was missing about 10 to 12 inches of its tail, which is not uncommon because they fight during mating season.”

Cavender estimated the animal to weigh more than 250 pounds and measure about nine feet long.

As Cavender wrangled the gator off Greenwood’s property, she gave updates on social media.

“Initially, I was scared,” Greenwood said, but she began to relax as Cavender got the alligator under control.

After a couple hours, the Snake Chaser successfully removed the gator from the property and placed it in his truck. The unexpected visitor is now in a safe place, he said.

Cavender was a little banged up from the removal.

“I got a few bumps and bruises but it comes with the job,” he said. “I am feeling it today, for sure… I am in the business of wildlife. I love doing it.”
