Huntington Beach, Calif. police were fired on by a suspect who subsequently fled in a vehicle, crashed and died in a ball of flames.
A Southern California cop was saved from a suspect's bullet by his own badge.
Officers responded to a domestic dispute call around midday, Huntington Beach police said in a statement.
The male suspect involved in the incident got into a vehicle and fled the residence. Officers followed, at which point the suspect made a U-turn and shot at the officers with an unknown-caliber gun.

One round went through the windshield of one officer’s vehicle, striking his badge. The round deflected off the badge and another officer was able to return fire.
