"Hacksaw Ridge," directed by Gibson, is already generating Oscar buzz.
Sporting a grey beard, Mel Gibson stepped out for the premiere of his new film, Hacksaw Ridge.
The film has become a critical success and Gibson, who has already won an Oscar for Braveheart, told Inside Edition: “I feel good. It's very gratifying to have your work recognized by peers.”

Gibson's been keeping a low profile for the last 10 years following his drunk driving arrest and a nasty custody battle with his ex, Oksana Grigorieva.
Hacksaw Ridge, directed by Gibson, follows the true story of Desmond Doss, a medic who refused to carry a gun in World War II. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for saving 75 men.
“It shows the other side of someone who is unwilling to kill another human being.” Gibson told Inside Edition at the premiere. "It transcends war."
Doss' son, Desmond Doss, Jr., walked the red carpet, and couldn't be more proud.
He told Inside Edition: “It was an incredible movie, just incredible.”
He thinks the movie will do as much for Gibson as for his father's legacy.
“I applaud people who have the wherewithal, the grit and the determination to just start over,” he said.
The film stars Vince Vaughn and Andrew Garfield, who plays Doss. Garfield praised the Gibson on the red carpet.

“He's all about the story," Garfield said of the Lethal Weapon star. "He's not about himself at all. Everything is in service of the characters the story."
Vaughn added: "He’s one of the best storytellers ever. He makes movies about people and inspiring movies. As an actor that’s why you get into the game."
Gibson, 60, brought his 26-year-old girlfriend Rosalind Ross to the premiere. She's carrying his ninth child.
