Seven-year-old Adrian Jones was abused and starved to death, prosecutors said.
A Kansas woman was sentenced to life in prison Monday for the murder of her 7-year-old stepson, whose body was fed to pigs kept on the family’s property.
Heather Jones, 30, will be eligible for parole after 25 years. She also was sentenced to an additional five years and eight months on two child abuse charges.

She pleaded guilty last month to first-degree murder charges in the boy’s death, the Associated Press reported.
Kansas City District Judge Mike Grosko ordered the sentences to be served consecutively.
The child’s father, Michael Jones, 45, is also charged with murder and is awaiting trial, the Kansas City Star reported.
“He was horribly abused, neglected and ultimately killed. I’m sure his suffering was unbearable,” said Chief Deputy District Attorney Sheryl Lidtke.
Adrian was physically and emotionally abused, kept confined and "essentially starved to death," she said.

Six other children, ranging in age from 2 to 10, were also in the home and have been placed in state custody. All were home schooled, authorities said.
They were living in a “house of horrors,” the children’s maternal grandmother, Judy Conway, told the wire service. The boy’s father prevented her from seeing the children, she said.
Police were called last November to the ramshackle house on a domestic disturbance report. Inside, officers found rooms full of trash, syringes, dead mice and spoiled food, authorities said. Police learned that Adrian had been missing for months and returned with a search warrant.
Adrian’s remains were discovered in a barn where pigs were kept.
