"Things have been working out well over the last year and a half," their owner Christine McNeely said. "And they decided to make that leap."

Rescue dogs Lola and Miguel celebrated their nuptials at an annual winter carnival in Liverpool, New York, after a year-and-a-half of dating, their owner said.
"They wanted to commit to each other," joked Christine McNeely, the director of HumaneCNY. "Things have been working out well over the last year-and-a-half and they decided to make that leap."
The Tuesday event, photographed by Venessa Virginia of Beyond Photography, was held as a fundraiser for the shelter both pups were rescued from. The wedding featured a full wedding party, including different dogs rescued from HumaneCNY as their bridesmaids and groomsmen. Two puppies that are still waiting to be adopted acted as their flower girl and ring bearer.
The pair were wed by a local dog celebrity, Ringo, a 9-year-old Jack Russell terrier that works as a therapy dog
According to McNeely, love pups Miguel and Lola met at the shelter.
She had adopted Miguel when he was just a puppy three years ago, and Lola arrived at the shelter when she was about one and a half years old.
"She had probably been abused, terrified of everything and everyone," McNeely explained.
But, McNeely quickly noticed a bond between Lola and Miguel, and eventually adopted Lola.

In the time the Chihuahuas have lived in her home, McNeely explained their bond started to grow. Miguel is protective of Lola, she said, and in turn, Lola follows her guardian dog everywhere he goes.
"She used to hide all the time but now she greets people at the shelter," McNeely said. "He helped her come out of her shell."
