In September, Nick Gordon was deemed legally responsible for the death of his girlfriend, Bobbi Kristina Brown, who died in 2015.
A Georgia judge has ordered the boyfriend of the late Bobbi Kristina Brown to pay her family more than $36 million in a wrongful death civil suit, according to reports.
In September, Nick Gordon was deemed legally responsible for the death of 22-year-old Brown after he failed to appear at a civil hearing at the Fulton County Superior Court in Atlanta, WXIA reported.
His absence marked the second hearing Gordon had missed and as a result, he was found in contempt of the order and the judgement was made “by default,” officials said at the time.
The civil suit alleged that in 2015, Gordon had beaten Brown after a “cocaine and drinking binge.” It claimed that he had given his longtime girlfriend a “toxic cocktail” that caused her to pass out.

Brown was found unresponsive in a tub at her Roswell townhouse and, after being kept in a medically induced coma for several months, she died in hospice care.
Gordon was accused in the suit of assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress and transferring money from Brown’s bank account into his own without authorization.
After a series of testimonials from Brown’s father, Bobby Brown, and her friends, Fulton County Superior Court Judge T. Jackson Bedford assessed the damages and losses related to the incident to determine the value of the young woman’s life.

The amount awarded to Brown’s family included $1.575 million for money taken from the account, including alleged stolen rings; $250,000 in punitive damages; $1.37 million for assault and battery; $13.8 million for pain and suffering as a result of assault; $4.2 million in punitive damages; and $15 million for present value of life, WXIA wrote.
The lawsuit sought $50 million in damages, WXIA wrote.
No criminal charges have been filed against Gordon.
Gordon's attorneys had previously denied that he had anything to do with the death of his girlfriend, saying in a statement "the Fulton County District Attorney's office has tried to make Nick a murderer despite having clear and convincing evidence that Bobbi Kristina's death was nothing more than a tragic accident."
