The year that claimed the lives of Prince, David Bowie, Gene Wilder, Zsa Zsa Gabor and many others had fans looking to protect the former Golden Girls star.
Spartanburg, South Carolina, resident Demetrios Hrysikos set up a GoFundMe account Tuesday to: "Help 2016 catch these hands if it goes anywhere near Betty White! If she's okay with it I will fly to where ever Betty White is and keep her safe till Jan. 1, 2017."
His goal was to raise $2,000 to help protect the actress. In less than 24 hours, he raised more than $3,000.
Should White not want his protection, Hrysikos said he will donate the funds to the Spartanburg Little Theater, a local production company for young thespians.
He wrote on the GoFundMe site: “Assuming she doesn't want a strange Greek standing guard outside her door all monies will be donated to the Spartanburg little theater to help craft new stars of stage and screen to carry mantle of the legends that have left is this year."
There’s no word on whether the last remaining Golden Girl will take Hrysikos up on the unusual offer.
