As the rest of the world readied to ring in 2017, three thieves made New Year’s Eve a night to remember by making off with millions of dollars’ worth of gems from a New York jewelry wholesaler, just blocks away from Times Square, police said.
Using a pry-bar and hammer, the suspects got inside KGK Holdings jewelry wholesaler on the sixth floor of a West 36th Street building in midtown at about 10 p.m. Saturday, just blocks away from where about a million people crowded to watch the ball drop, authorities said.
Once in, the men snatched jewelry from two safes, which officials valued at $6 million.

The safes were not broken into forcibly, and the men used a freight elevator to get to the business, a law enforcement source told InsideEdition.com.
No one was injured in the incident.
Cops on Monday released video of two of the alleged thieves, including one man who had neglected to cover his face as he and his partner worked on getting the jeweler’s door open.
After a few seconds of banging and prying on the door, the pair realizes that they are being recorded and take out the camera, the surveillance footage shows.

Police on Saturday were reminded to be on the lookout for any potential bank burglaries, as would-be thieves are known to strike on the holiday, the law enforcement source said.
