A Texas woman was fatally shot in front of her two young children and their father after he followed a vehicle that had hit their car and fled, police said.
Edward Scott told police that he was driving with his family Monday night when a gray-colored Jeep Commander backed into his vehicle and sped off before eventually stopping in a shopping center parking lot.
Scott had followed the vehicle in an attempt to get its license plate, police said. When he pulled alongside it, he told the driver he was going to call the cops, according to police.
The driver responded by pulling out a handgun and firing at the young family, hitting Scott’s wife, Jessica Lynn Mills, before taking off again, authorities said.

"I didn't even get to tell her goodbye or anything," Scott told KHOU-TV. "I never thought in a million years I would lose her this way."
Mills, 29, was rushed to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. She had been shot in the back as Scott and their 4-month-old and 4-year-old daughters watched.
“It was a pretty horrific sight to see what had actually happened,” Scott said. “They barely missed my daughter and they shot my wife … she was the love of my life. We were together 10 years. I've known her since middle school. She was everything; she meant the world to me. She was my best friend, she was my soul mate, she was the mother of my children, she was everything that I could hope for in life. There will never be another one of her. Without her I feel kind of lost.”

The suspects were described as two young men, around the ages of 16 and 20, and were in an SUV they were believed to have carjacked earlier in the night.
That vehicle has Texas license plates CN5X057, police said.
As of Wednesday, no arrests had been made and there were no updates to the case, officials said.
