'Zoey 101' Actor Helps Rescue Baby After Parents OD in Car: Cops

'Zoey 101' actor Matthew Underwood helped rescue baby from crashed car after parents overdosed, authorities said.

An actor from Nickelodeon’s Zoey 101 series helped rescue a 4-month-old baby from a car after the boy’s parents passed out from a drug overdose in Florida, police said.

Matthew Underwood said he saw a car veer across six lanes of traffic and slam into a tree. He pulled over to help and saw an unconscious woman behind the wheel and a man in the back seat with a needle nearby, he told WPTV.

A baby was also in the back, in an unsecured car seat, he said.

"I heard a baby cry and that’s when I really stopped caring about anything that was going on there and I immediately ran around the other side of the car and looked for the baby," said Underwood, who appeared in the cable comedy series from 2005 to 2008.

Port St. Lucie police arrested Jessica Hand and John Rodriquez, both 35, last Thursday and charged them with child neglect, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of probation, authorities said.

The mother had a needle stuck in her arm, police said.

Officers first administered CPR to the couple. After being treated at a nearby hospital, they were booked into the St. Lucie County Jail, police said. It was not clear whether they had entered pleas.

The baby was not hurt and was placed in the custody of relatives, police said.
