GLAAD honored Messing with the "Excellence in Media Award" in Manhattan Saturday.
Actress Debra Messing used a moment in the spotlight to make a plea to Ivanka Trump while being honored at the 20174 GLAAD Media Awards in New York City.

“Let's talk for a second, one Jewish mother to another,” the Will & Grace star said during her speech Saturday night. “It’s not enough to simply say that women’s issues are important to you. It’s time to do something. You can change the lives of millions of women and children just by telling your dad stories about real people who are suffering.”
She called Trump’s oldest daughter the “secretary of state” and blasted the president, calling him a “very bad and very orange man in our White House.”
“Please stop blindly defending your father and start defending what you say you believe in,” the actress said.
Messing also begged Ivanka Trump, who is an unpaid assistant to her father in the White House, not to separate immigrant mothers from their American-born kids and not to take health care away from women who are in need of it.
The actress then began to deliver a series of verbal jabs at the first daughter and called on Ivanka to “stop blindly defending” her father and begin “defending what you say you believe in.”
GLAAD, which is a media organization that promotes the understanding, equality, and acceptance of the LGBTQ community, honored Messing with the “Excellence in Media Award” in Manhattan.
During her speech, Messing brought up transgender student Gavin Grimm who has become the face of the bathroom laws in the country.
Messing urged Ivanka to try and persuade her dad to not make people like Grimm “fight in court for their basic human dignity.” Grimm was in attendance and is currently fighting Congress for the right to use a bathroom that identifies with his gender.

The president returned to Washington, D.C., Sunday night after spending the weekend at his golf course in Bedminster, N.J.
