Cole James Clark died Monday.
A young Virginia boy died this week after he accidentally shot himself while at his babysitter's house, according to his family.
Four-year-old Cole Clark somehow got his hands on a gun Monday at his caregiver's home in Orange County, according to a statement from the sheriff's office.
In response to a 911 call, investigators and rescue personnel arrived and attempted life-saving measures without success and the child was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Orange Sheriff's Office, the babysitter's home is also the residence of a Stafford County Deputy Sheriff.
However, the deputy was not at home at the time of the incident and the firearm involved in the shooting was not a service weapon, the Sheriff's Office said.
On a GoFundMe page in order to offset funeral expenses, Cole's grieving family wrote a touching tribute to the little boy who they said so dearly loved his mom and dad.
"He would say 1000000000000000000000000 times a day 'Daddy or Mommy, I love you' Just because. It would be random. There is so much I could say about this little boy, this bio would be never ending," Kyrin Falcetti, Cole's mom, wrote on the page.
The parents also spoke to local reporters in the wake of the tragedy, and urged gun owners to learn firearm safety and keep the weapons out of reach of children.
A 2016 joint investigation by the Associated Press and USA Today Network found that in the first six months of that year, gun accidents killed at least one child in the United States every other day.
"It's very difficult to keep things together right now, but Josh and I would be forever greatful for any help you can give. We want to give Cole the best service a 4 year old can get. He deserves everything," Falcetti wrote in the GoFundMe page.
"Rest in peace our baby boy," she continued. "Mommy and Daddy love you so much and you will never be forgotten."
