Shannon MacLeod, 35, was the mother to five children and was going to become a grandmother this fall.
A pregnant mother died in a freak accident after her 6-year-old son mistakenly put their minivan in gear and backed up over her in a Washington state parking lot, authorities said.
Emergency responders used their equipment to lift the vehicle off of Shannon MacLeod, 35, after finding her trapped underneath in a parking lot near Sunnyside Beach in Steilacoom at about 4:15 p.m. Monday, The News Tribune reported.
Investigators are still investigating the incident, but said MacLeod, who was eight months pregnant, was loading her minivan’s trunk to leave the beach when the vehicle rolled back and pinned her, the newspaper reported.

Her 6-year-old son and the other children in the van were not injured.
MacLeod died on the way to a nearby hospital. Miraculously, doctors were able to perform an emergency C-section to save the baby, who was rushed to Seattle Children’s Hospital.
“Her baby is alive and in the hospital,” wrote one of her sons, Nathan MacLeod, on a GoFundMe page created to help bury his mother and care for his siblings. “We need all the help and support we can get.”

MacLeod was the mother of five children and was going to become a grandmother in September.
“My mom loved her kids more than anything,” Nathan MacLeod wrote on the GoFundMe. “All she cared about was her kids. [She] did everything to take care of them no matter what.”
As of Wednesday, the page had raised $5,475 of its $10,000 goal.
