Whitney Moore, a high school senior, arrived to prom in style Monday night with lights flashing and sirens blaring, in typical police escort style. In fact, she and her date even got a ride in an NYPD chief’s personal SUV.
“Welcome to prom Whitney,” the NYPD Patrol Borough Brooklyn North wrote on Facebook after they recorded her entrance on Facebook Live. “Hope you have a great night!”
Detective Izora Neal told InsideEdition.com that Whitney has been involved with a police youth mentorship program for several years, and was even awarded the chance to be deputy commander of the precinct for a day after winning an essay contest.
“When her mentor in the NYPD asked her how she was getting to prom, [we] learned she may not have a means to get there,” Neal said. “She lost everything in a fire two weeks ago.”

That’s when the NYPD’s Brooklyn North precinct decided to step in and pool their resources to help her have a night to remember.
Her family was even invited to watch her grand entrance from an unmarked police van that followed the spectacle.
“Tonight was simply amazing,” Whitney wrote on Facebook.
