The suspect was shot during a confrontation with police in a field near the airport.
Police shot and killed an armed man as he tried to hijack a helicopter at an Oregon airport on Monday, officials said.
After jumping a fence into a secure flight area of Hillsboro Aero Air, the man brandished a pistol and ordered a flight instructor and their student out of the chopper so he could take control at about 11:30 a.m., Hillsboro police said.
The suspect fired his gun once, but the pair ordered out of the helicopter — a man and a woman — were not harmed, cops said.

As the man entered the aircraft, employees from Hillsboro Aero Air arrived on the scene and held the suspect at gunpoint until law enforcement arrived.
The suspect fled as the first police officer arrived at the helicopter, climbing over a fence and heading south into a field next to a neighboring hotel on Cornell Road, authorities said.
He was confronted by another officer minutes later and was shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect and the officer who shot him were not immediately identified.
“The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure following any officer-involved shooting,” Hillsboro Police said in a statement.
The Washington County Major Crimes Team is leading the investigation into the incident.
