Several teachers and students from the school district were personally affected by Sunday's massacre.
A Las Vegas high school choir is singing a song of hope after several students and teachers in their community were affected by Sunday shooting massacre.
The singers from Liberty High School in Henderson, Nev., a suburb of Las Vegas, performed a touching rendition of Burt Bacharach’s “What the World Needs Now Is Love,” arm-in-arm as a tribute to the victims of the massacre.
“People forget that there are actual residents of Las Vegas who call it home and aren't just visiting. Those people are hurting – especially the kids,” the school’s choir director Lamont Russell told InsideEdition.com. “They don't know how to react to this type of violence, so the song was a way for them to express themselves during this difficult time."
Russell said he was inspired to revisit the song after the same tune was re-recorded last year by Broadway stars in the wake of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando.
“I thought it would a great way to let the community know how much support and love they have,” he said.
He explained at least one of the Clark County School District’s teachers was attending the Route 91 Harvest Festival when the shots rang out. At least 7 students were affected directly by the tragedy.
“There is still love and beauty,” said high school senior Jesse Miron. “We are all still here together and we can make beautiful things happen together."
His classmate, Christopher Hinojos, added, "Singing this song gives me hope. It makes me want to do more for the community and make people feel loved."
