Radio show host Buzz Bishop ignited a firestorm of controversy when he publicly announced that he likes one of his sons more than the other. Now, parenting experts are weighing in. INSIDE EDITION has the detail.
Is this man the worst dad in the world? That's what he's being called after blogging that he likes one son more than the other.
Radio host Buzz Bishop wrote that he prefers his 5-year-old son Zacharie over his other son, 2-year-old Charlie.
"I admit it, my oldest son is my favorite because he can do more things. He and I are adventurous partners in crime. To me, he's more fun," he wrote, "I just, you know, like him better," adding sarcastically, "Aren't I the worst dad in the world?"
"He's the one I relate to easier. If that means he's my favorite and that's the language I use, I don't think that's too evil," said Bishop.
He even posted a video of Zacharie, then 2, claiming it was the exact moment he bonded forever with the boy.
The blog is causing an uproar. One mom is calling it "Cruel and horrendous."
Another writes, "This really saddens me to know a child will grow up in the shadow of his older brother."
Psychologist Jeff Gardere told INSIDE EDITION, "The child who's not considered to be the preferential one may have to live that for the rest of his life. 'Dad always did like you best' becomes the key signature to every failure that comes after that.' "
Parenting experts say having a favorite is one thing. Revealing it may condemn both boys to a lifetime of bitter sibling rivalry.
"They're going to feel insecure, they're going to want to know why their father did this. Why their father felt like that, and if their father did feel like this, why would he go out and tell the world about this," said Lyss Stern.
But Bishop is unrepentant.
"I'm honest when I write and I wrote about that moment, that struggle I have, and told the story about my kids," said Bishop.
