Incoming freshmen at Georgia Tech were greeted with a welcome speech that captivated the new students and the world after it went viral. INSIDE EDITION has the details.
One student was asked to welcome incoming freshmen to Georgia Tech. It started out like any typical welcoming speech, but then something happened that the beanie-wearing freshman will never forget.
Nick Selby is the mechanical engineering sophomore whose enthusiastic speech electrified the audience.
Selby said in the bombastic speech, "Our mission as students is not to follow in the footsteps of the astronauts, Nobel Prize lords, presidents who graduated before us, but to exceed their footsteps! Crush the shoulders of the giants on whom we stand!"
The speech has now gone viral with more than a million views. Lots of people are comparing him to Harry Potter.
Selby told INSIDE EDITION, "I am a huge fan of Harry Potter. He is totally cool. Being compared to looking like Harry Potter, no complaints there, that is for sure."
With music swelling in the background, he brought it home in a rousing way.
He said, “If you want to change the world, you're at Georgia Tech! If you want to build the Iron Man suit, you're at Georgia Tech, you can do that! And if you want to play theme music during your convocation speech like a badass, you're at Georgia Tech you can do that! I am doing that!”
After a standing ovation, with perfect timing, a deadpan Nick Selby came to the point, “Congratulations on your acceptance."
