Fifteen-year-old Cassidy Stay made a courageous public appearance just four days after her entire family was massacred by her uncle in their home. INSIDE EDITION reports.
America marveled at the courage of the sole survivor of a horrific family massacre.
Fifteen-year-old Cassidy Stay spoke at a memorial ceremony just four days after her parents and her four siblings were killed.
"Thank you all for coming and showing your support for me and my family. Stay strong," said Cassidy.
"I know that my mom, dad, Bryan, Emily, Rebecca, and Zach are in a much better place and that i will be able to see them again one day," said Cassidy.
Cassidy got hugs from well-wishers. She managed to smile and wave at people who came out to support her.
Angela Bickford, a spokesman for the family, told INSIDE EDITION, "She is such a strong girl, and she has such a strong faith."
Cassidy's uncle, Ronald Haskell, is accused of breaking into the Stay family home in Houston, gunning for his ex-wife. Cops say Haskell tied up the entire family and executed them one by one. Cassidy was grazed in the head and miraculously survived by playing dead.
"I'd like to thank all of the first responders, nurses, and doctors that have taken care of me," she said. "I feel a lot better and I am on a straight path to a full recovery."
Behind Cassidy stood her grandfather, whose life she is credited with saving by calling 911 and alerting the cops of Haskell's rampage.
At the memorial, Cassidy and her supporters released 600 balloons, one hundred for each victim.
Well-wishers have already donated almost $300,000 to an online fund for Cassidy.
"The outpouring for people that don't even know this girl is very impressive," said fundraiser Jody Dellinger.
