INSIDE EDITION sits down with NBA star, Matt Barnes, who turned to social media to find the person who killed his aunt.
He's a star on the embattled Los Angeles Clippers basketball team.
Now, a desperate plea made by six-foot-seven-inch Matt Barnes to his legion of fans to help find his aunt's killer has worked.
Barnes sat down with INSIDE EDITION'S Victoria Recano. He told her, "Her crime was a brutal crime. You never want to see anyone get murdered, but to be found half-naked on the sidewalk with your throat slit, that’s what's really driven me."
Barnes posted two photos of the suspect, Michael Williams, on his Instagram account and also wrote this message: “This dude stabbed my auntie in the neck last week and left her for dead on the sidewalk.”
His aunt, Tanganykia, was slain earlier this month in Sacramento. Police say the suspected killer is her husband.
Barnes said, "The day before the murders, Tang told her son David she was ready for a divorce."
Barnes is married to Basketball Wives star Gloria Govan. He had hoped the power of social media would lead to the capture of his aunt's alleged killer and now it has. Police say a tip led them to William’s hideaway and he was arrested today.
Barnes said, “It was such a brutal act that he needs to be brought to justice."
Off the court, Matt Barnes has established a foundation in honor of his late mother who died of cancer. On September 7 he is helping Snoop Dogg co-host a fundraiser, “Athletes v Cancer” flag football game to raise money to fight cancer. He is also hosting a basketball camp for Kids August 4-8.
