What's in a name? For some, it could be an unwanted link to terror. INSIDE EDITION found three people who share the same name as the terrorist group ISIS and are not happy about the connection.
ISIS is the barbaric terror organization responsible for the gruesome beheadings of American hostages.
It makes one woman really mad because her name is also Isis. Thirty-eight-year-old Isis Martinez of Miami gets upset every time she sees a news report about the terrorists.
She told INSIDE EDITION, “I can't begin to explain what it feels like to hear your name associated with the world's worst terrorist group.”
INSIDE EDITION’s Steven Fabian said, “Sounds like you’re mad.”
She replied, “Yes, I'm mad. I’m due to get on a plane next week. Just imagine if someone is yelling out my name in the middle of an airplane.”
She's not alone. Twelve-year-old Isis Lesko from Baltimore says she is the target of cruel taunts over her name.
David Emami of Portland, Oregon, told Fabian he is already hearing cruel jokes about his three-year-old daughter, Isis, saying, “'You better not ground her she might behead you. Just really, really hurtful things.'”
ISIS stands for Islamic state of Iraq and Syria. The president and other U.S. officials usually use the alternate name ISIL.
Isis Martinez said, “All we ask is that people stop using our name because the backlash on thousands of us is real.”
