Is There a Hidden Agenda in V?

Airdate: 11/4/2009
Space aliens arrived with a message of peace and hope, but in reality they're interstellar lizards who plan to eat mankind!

That's the frightening scenario in the new ABC sci-fi series V which premiered last night. But Miami Herald TV critic Glenn Garvin says the show has a hidden agenda: its a thinly-disguised critique of the Obama administration.

"The leader of the space aliens is very good looking, telegenic, she comes, much as Obama did, out of nowhere. There is instant mania for her among Americans and the press corps. She won't deal with news media that are critical or tough on her.

The most obvious reference to the Obama administration: the aliens offer universal health care.

"Do you think this character might infuriate Obama supporters?" INSIDE EDITION's Les Trent asks Garvin.

"I don't think the show is anti-Obama, I think the show is more properly a critique of what happens when people get carried away with a new leader," he says.

Meanwhile, the internet is buzzing about V. One blogger wrote: "The parallels to Obama are unmistakable."
