Peeping Tom Spies on Family

Airdate: 11/6/2009
"I know exactly how Erin Andrews feels. The same thing happened to us." Bob Reams knows exactly what Erin Andrews felt like when her privacy was violated by a peeping tom in a hotel room.

He never dreamed what would happen when he took his wife Kim and their three children on a trip to Denver and checked into an upscale Marriott hotel.

"With the door shut they feel safe," Bob says.

He tells INSIDE EDITION they all used the bedroom to change. "My wife was nude in there."

What the family didn't know was that a peeping tom in a neighboring room had cut a tiny hole in their bedroom wall near the bed. He concealed a video camera, and ran a cable into his room and into his TV.

"It just sickens me to think what he might have been doing," Bob says.

The peeper was able to see the unsuspecting family's most private moments. "You wonder, 'How much did this guy see?' " says Kim.

Their young daughters showed INSIDE EDITION the bathing suits they tried on in the hotel room. "Not knowing he was there just creeps me out," says Lauren.

Shortly after Bob and his wife Kim returned home to suburban Omaha they received a letter from the Denver district attorney. Hotel staff had discovered the hidden camera and a cable leading into the next room.

"I am beyond myself right now. I simply can't believe this was allowed to happen."

41-year-old David Lee Fugate was arrested. The self-employed business consultant had been staying in the room for months.  Police believe there may be other victims.

"I think he's revolting, he's disgusting, I think he's a despicable individual," says Bob.

Now Bob and his wife routinely scour the internet, terrified that nude images of them might one day surface, just like what happened to Erin Andrews. And the Reams say from now on they'll be extra careful about staying in hotels, and will be checking the walls for cameras.

What has angered the family even more is the fact that because police have no evidence that Fugate recorded the family, he was allowed to plead to a lesser "misdemeanor eavesdropping" charge. He only received probation and no jail time.
