The Fort Hood Shooter

Airdate: 11/6/2009
39-year-old Major Nidal Hasan, who went on a shooting rampage at Fort Hood, was about to be deployed to Afghanistan before he snapped. He lives in a second floor apartment, which was raided by SWAT teams after the shooting. Neighbors say he had begun giving away all his belongings.

The day before the shooting, Hasan gave his next-door neighbor numerous items, including chairs, wooden shelves, an alarm clock, clothing racks, and shirts, some brand new.

"Wow, that's a red flag," says neighbor Renee Knapp.

And there were other red flags. Six months ago, when he was promoted to Major, Hasan blogged about suicide bombings on a website. He wrote: "Suicide bombers....help to save Muslims by killing enemy soldiers."

Today, a blogger on the same website sent this message to Hasan: "You coward. You had no right to wear the uniform of an American hero. You will burn in hell!"

Hasan was born in Virginia, he graduated from Virginia Tech.

His cousin spoke to Fox News Channel, saying, "[Hasan] was dealing with some harassment with some of his military colleagues. And he hired a military attorney to try to have the issue resolved, [and] pay back the government to get out of the military if that was it."

Hasan's stunned family issued a statement saying, "Our family loves America. We are proud of our country and saddened by today's tragedy."
