Sandra Lee Reveals She Has Breast Cancer

Celebrity Chef Sandra Lee revealed on Good Morning America that she has breast cancer and will undergo a double mastectomy.

Food Network host Sandra Lee, the longtime girlfriend of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, is revealing she has breast cancer.

She will undergo a double mastectomy this week.

Lee told Good Morning America's Robin Roberts that she got the heartbreaking news just minutes after a photo shoot in March for People magazine's 'Most Beautiful' issue.

She said, “I didn’t even cry. I was stunned. That’s how fast life turns, it turns on a dime. I walked off the set and 20 minutes later, my doctor told me I had breast cancer.”

The 48-year-old TV chef has her own magazine, Sandra Lee, and hosts the popular TV show Sandras's Restaurants Remakes on the Food Network,

She said Governor Cuomo will be in the operating room with her when she undergoes surgery. They have been together for 10 years.

“You know, there's two ways cancer beats you up. It beats you up physically and it beats you up emotionally,” she said.

Governor Cuomo said in a statement he is taking personal time off to be with her.

In the statement he said, "A situation like this quickly puts life in the proper perspective and reminds one of what's truly important. I want to be with sandy to support her in any way I can as she handles the trauma of her operation and the pain of the recovery."

Sandra Lee has this message for other women: “Go pick up a phone, call your doctor, get your rear end in there and go get a mammogram right now!”
