Whitey Bulger, the notorious Boston gangster who is convicted of murdering 11 people, actually sent a handwritten note to the three high-school students.
In the note, he trashed himself, writing: "My life was wasted and spent foolishly, brought shame and suffering on my parents and siblings."
It all started when Michaela Arguin, Brittany Tainsh and Molly-Kate Rodenbush wrote to Bulger in prison as part of a school history project.
Michaela said: “We were just really surprised because he seemed almost remorseful, he was apologizing.”
They wanted to know what his legacy would be.
Brittany said: “We said the worst thing that could happen is, he doesn't reply. And we took our chances.”
Just a week later, they got the letter back sent from the prison in Florida. where he is serving life. It was polite but scathing about his life of crime. He wrote: “I'm sorry, but I can't help you with your school project - there are many people more deserving of your time and interests.”

His most surprising advice comes in the last sentence when he said, “I know only one thing for sure - if you want to make crime pay, go to law school.”
INSIDE EDITION’s Megan Alexander asked the girls: “Is it a little creepy that he wrote back?”
“It was definitely surreal, maybe a little bit creepy, now that I think about it,” said Michaela.
Bulger's letter is especially topical at the moment, as a new movie about the mobster opens soon. Johnny Depp is set to play him in Black Mass. Depp could pass as a double for Bulger back in the day, a time that even the mobster now admits was totally wasted.
