A clerk told deputies a large man wearing a ski mask and an orange plaid hooded sweatshirt came into the store and brandished a butcher knife.
A 7-foot-4 man who allegedly robbed a Michigan 7-Eleven at knifepoint turned himself in to police at the behest of his sister, who thought his unusual height would give away his identity.
Damon Matthews, 19, was arrested and charged with one count of armed robbery, which is a life offense.
Deputies from the Bay County Sheriff’s Department responded to a robbery call at a 7-Eleven on Kawkawlin Road at 3:01 a.m. Sunday, where they were told a very tall man held up the place, officials said.

Matthews also reportedly told police that he believed the clerk may have gone to high school with him, according to police.

Matthews allegedly threatened the clerk and demanded money, and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and a carton of Newport cigarettes, the sheriff’s department said.
He fled the store and jumped into a friend’s car, who police identified as Michael Pelo, 33, was waiting outside and was believed to have thought Matthews was only going to shoplift, authorities said.
Pelo brought Matthews home and when he told his older sister what he had done, she immediately said he needed to turn himself in, according to police.
“My brother is here to turn himself in because he robbed the 7-Eleven store,” the sister reportedly told deputies.

He was arraigned on Monday, where Judge Timothy J. Kelly set bail at $75,000 cash-surety.
Matthews was free on bond at the time of the stick-up and was awaiting sentencing on a larceny conviction, which he pleaded guilty to just four days earlier on November 25, officials said.
He is set to be sentenced on that charge on January 4 and will next appear in court for the 7-Eleven robbery on December 15.
He has not yet entered a plea and does not yet have an attorney, police said.
Police also arrested Pelo and two others, identified as Ryan Helm and Tasha Patino, who were with that man. All three had unrelated outstanding warrants related to drug or alcohol offenses and failing to comply with court directives, cops said.
