A teenager was allegedly found in California trying to smuggle thousands of dollars’ worth of drugs by strapping them to his body under a woman’s spandex body suit, officials said.
El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents patted down a 16-year-old boy who appeared nervous when the commercial bus he was on arrived at a checkpoint in Indio around 4 p.m. Wednesday, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Agents discovered four packages of heroin wrapped around his stomach, which were “held in place by a woman’s spandex body suit,” the department said.
The heroin weighed nearly four pounds in total and was worth approximately $46,200, authorities said.
“The agents of the El Centro Sector Border Patrol continue to safeguard our nation and its citizens by keeping dangerous drugs such as these from reaching our streets,” Acting Chief Patrol Agent Roy Villareal said in a statement.

The teen, a United States citizen who was not identified, and the drugs were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
It was not immediately clear if the boy had an attorney.
During fiscal year 2014, El Centro Sector seized more than 186 pounds of heroin, officials said.
