Jasmine Samuel called 911 about 12:30 a.m. Thursday saying she had been forced into the trunk of her car.
A Florida man who fatally shot his ex-girlfriend after forcing her into the trunk of a car has been arrested, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said Saturday afternoon.
Police said a Sam's Club customer spotted David Payne, 62, after 1 p.m., Orange County Capt. Angelo Nieves told WFTV.
The tipster recognized Payne from news reports, according to police. Deputies soon arrested Payne as he left the store.
Payne is suspected of killing mother-of-two Jasmine Samuel just after she called 911 from the trunk of her own car to report she'd been kidnapped.
Samuel called 911 about 12:30 a.m. Thursday saying she had been forced into the trunk of her car, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said
She was on a work break at Sonoco Products, located in an Orlando industrial area, when she encountered her ex-boyfriend, David Payne. He forced her into the trunk of her 2014 black Nissan Maxima, Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said at a press conference.
Samuel managed to call 911 and during the 15-minute-long call, was able to provide a general area of where she was taken, officials.

Deputies began an extensive search and found the vehicle around 2 a.m. on a dirt road about four miles from where investigators believe the mother of two made the call, but it was too late. Her body was found in the trunk.
Officials would not say how Samuel was killed, but reportedly said that a "firearm was used."
There were times during Samuel’s 911 call that sirens could be heard in the background, Demings said.
“He knew that the police was nearby,” Demings said.

Homicide detectives took about two days to locate Payne, who has been charged with first-degree murder and armed kidnapping.
Payne and Samuel had ended a romantic relationship, and Samuel reportedly told family members she feared for her life, but no injunctions were filed, Demings said.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family of Jasmine Samuel, and with the help of the people here in Orange County, we should be able to bring some semblance of justice to the family,” he said.
