Steve Harvey Crowns Wrong Miss Universe Then Misspells Country Names in Apology Tweet

Host Steve Harvey was deeply sorry for his live TV flub, but then he flubbed again when he spelled both Philippines and Colombia wrong in an apology.

Miss Philippines was crowned Miss Universe in Las Vegas on Sunday, but not before host Steve Harvey accidentally gave the honor to Miss Colombia.

The humiliating flub occurred live on Fox on Sunday night and wasn't caught until after Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo of Colombia was already wearing the glittering crown.

Harvey explained he'd simply read incorrectly from the card, which he held up to the cameras to show that Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of the Philippines was this year's winner and Colombia was the first runner-up.

Miss Philippines took her place beside Miss Colombia at the front of the stage, where last year's winner--who just happened to be the previous year's Miss Colombia--removed her crown and placed it on Wurtzbach's head.

All wrongs appeared to be righted. Unfortunately, Steve Harvey had another mistake or two to make.

When the comedian took to Twitter to apologize on Sunday evening, he spelled not one but both of the beauty queens' countries incorrectly.

In the 7 p.m. tweet, which has since been corrected but is still visible at the New York Daily News, Harvey wrote: "I want to apologize emphatically to Miss Philippians and Miss Columbia. This was a terribly honest human mistake and I am so regretful."

Harvey soon posted an updated apology to "Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines."

Mark Shapiro, an executive with pageant owner WME-IMG, told reporters that Harvey caught the mistake himself. "It was humiliating for the women. It was humiliating for him," Shapiro said.

The previous owner of the pageant, none other than Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump, pounced on the opportunity to tout his leadership skills.

"Very sad what happened last night at the Miss Universe Pageant. I sold it 6 months ago for a record price. This would never have happened!" he tweeted.

It was a different tune from what the billionaire had posted just 12 hours before:

". final 3 on now. Great people, great new owner . WATCH."
