Mom of 'Affluenza' Teen Appears in Court, Will Now Return to Texas

The mom of "affluenza" teen Ethan Couch appeared in court today for a brief hearing.

The mom of "affluenza" teen Ethan Couch is set to be extradited from California to Texas.

Tonya Couch, 48, appeared in court in Los Angeles on Tuesday for a brief hearing, where she waived her extradition rights.

She will now be sent back to Texas to face charges of aiding her fugitive son.

In 2013, Ethan Couch, then 16, killed four people while driving drunk in his pickup truck near Fort Worth, Texas. His lawyers used the so-called "affluenza defense," saying he was so spoiled by his rich parents, he didn't know right from wrong.

He was sentenced to rehab and ten years of probation. But in November, he fled to Mexico with his mother after video surfaced of him at a beer pong party, an apparent violation of his probation.

Now, new details are emerging about Ethan’s life on the lam in the Mexican resort of Puerto Vallarta.

He reportedly ran up a $2,000 tab at a strip joint called The Harem.

When Ethan couldn’t pay, bouncers reportedly marched him back to his hotel and woke up his mom, who paid the massive bill.

One witness was quoted as saying the teen was so drunk he could barely stand.

The duo was eventually found by authorities and Tonya Couch flew back to the U.S. It is not yet clear when she will return to Texas. Her son remains in custody in Mexico.

Tonya Couch's attorneys released a statement saying she had done nothing illegal.

"While the public may not like what she did, may not agree with what she did, or may have strong feelings against what she did, make no mistake - Tonya did not violate any law of the State of Texas and she is eager to have her day in court," lawyers Stephanie K. Patten and Steve Gordon said.
